Interview with Annie

 

Meet Annie aka laughterqueen

 

Hi there!  It’s Joan (jonee) here with my first post on our team blog!   I'm so happy to bring you this interview with Annie (laughterqueen), one of our site Weed gals!  I've long been an admirer of her scrapping talent and now I want to share with you a little more about her. 

 

  We know you’re a fabulous scrapper but tell us a bit about Annie, the person.

I'm a 20-something creative soul who is married to a treasure of a man and is the mommy to a priceless little 2 year old girl. I adore capturing the beauty in this world with either my camera, written word or better yet - BOTH! Which is why scrapbooking & photography is perfect for me. Love to capture everything from the beautiful details in the big stuff to the beautiful details in the normal everyday little stuff. My husband is in the military and we're currently stationed in Germany, so it's been a great opportunity to travel around and experience Europe.

 

How did you get into digital scrapbooking?

I stumbled on it rather accidentally. I was a devoted traditional scrapper for 12 years! I started when I was 13 by using a few Creative Memories supplies from a home party my mom dragged me to...little did I know that the little home party my mom forced me to go to would start my scrapping PASSION! With my limited traditional supplies I created to my hearts content! Once I became a wife and mom I was even more passionate about documenting our lives in albums, but with moving overseas it was impossible to hand carry all my traditional supplies, so while waiting 2 months for our home goods to arrive in Germany I looked online for a way to scrapbook and stumbled on digital scrapping info. I haven't turned back since! My traditional supplies were delivered over a year ago and I haven't touched them. Love how clean and tidy digi-scrapping is! My motto is "Have Macbook, will Scrapbook" HAA!

 

 How would you describe your scrapping style?

I'm a scrapper who's always changing! I love grungy stuff, graphic stuff, simple stuff, busy stuff, so it's hard to wrap up my style in one word, but overall I'd say I love clean designs. Designs that help showcase the photos and not distract from them.

 

What is your favourite thing to scrap about?

My little girl! She is the focus of most of my pages. She is my #1 model for photos and at two years old already knows when she sees my camera to start saying, "Cheese! Cheese! Camera time!" Gosh I've trained her well.

 

What are your "go to" items or what items can’t you live without?

I love frames! I rarely ever create a layout that doesn't include frame(s). Love how they help the photo look finished and also help set it apart from the rest of the layout a bit.

 

What inspires your creativity?

I scour scrapbook galleries for inspiration mostly. I am inspired by something that might seem so small like a color combination or the way someone layered photos and elements and from there I let my own creativity run, usually ending up with a layout that doesn't look anything like my original inspiration, but one that I'm really happy with!

 

Do you have any words of advice for new scrappers?

Don't download every single freebie that comes your way. When I started I downloaded EVERYTHING I could get my hands on, then after about six months my poor computer had no room left and I had to weed through it all. I'd suggest only downloading the freebies that are really your style and finding a few designers who create kits that just really fit with your style and save your pennies for their kits!

 

I got to ask her a few more questions too:

Tell us about any other hobbies or interests.

Photography is my big one! Love, love, love capturing life with my Canon Rebel XTi. I also really enjoy cooking. One of my biggest joys is making a meal my hubby adores, just hearing him enjoy my cooking is such a simple pleasure!

 

What’s your favourite comfort food?

I know this sounds so simple, but I LOVE pimento cheese sandwiches, I was just visiting home and my sweet Mama made them for me and I couldn't get enough of it! It's my favorite simple meal, easy and oh so delicious.

 

What kind of music do you listen to?

I love all kinds of music! There is hardly a genre I don't listen to, I'm a big fan of 80's music and find myself listening to that a lot. I just re-discovered Cher and she's what I'm jamming to at this very moment as I type this out.

 

Do you have any secret wishes or dreams?

I would love to open up a little photography business one day. Still have a lot to learn about photography before I'd be ready to take that leap, but maybe one day!!

 

What do you think you will be doing ten years from now?

Probably living back in the states, busy taking my children back and forth to all their different activities and hopefully still find time to have fun vacation with just me and my hubby (totally our dream to go on a cruise with just the two of us!).

A wednesday TOOT-er!!

Hey all you lovely weedsters out there...It's Petra here spreading some sunshine around here! I'm filling in for Kenna today and really hope I can do as good as she always does!! This really became her thing and she does an amazing job! So thanks luv for always finding those outstanding scrappers and layouts and you sure make these wednesdays one of my favs!

So here we go...today I picked a special gallery for a special reason...So without further a do, let me introduce to you Sara a*k*a tarty00, a lovely lady from Australia... While I'm writing this she is probably asleep, well she wasn't sure if she was able to sleep since I told her I had a little suprise for her. Well she told me I intrigued her and couldn't wait to see her suprise! :)

Well let me tell you why we want to surprise her... On Monday she told us that one of her layouts called: 'My Petals' will be published in the Aussie Scrapbooking Memories Magazine. Her page only uses Gina's fab new collection 'the happy garden' and well we just wanted to congratulate her with being published and give her a little sumthin', sumthin'.

So of course I'm going to highlight three of her pages from her beautiful gallery and second I would love to give her a 5$ GC to the weeds & wildflowers shoppe just for fun!

So let me show you her fab work...First of her: 'Patience Is A Virtue', I love the sweet photos and the selective coloring on the photos. Also really like how she attached the frames and those cute soft doodles add the perfect touch to this page!

Then we've got: 'Fun in the sun', Adore the composition and layering of the greens and flowers here. Also like how she used the ropes!!

And last but not least: 'I wish for you to...', the extraction on this page is outstanding and love how she used all the little word strips. Also like how she used the paper to make it look like grass and well it just all comes together wonderful!!

So here ends my post for today...I would like to thank Sara for letting me highlight some of her pages and I would love for you to have a closer looksy in her beautiful gallery and leave her some sweet lovin' ! :)

Well, did you hear??

Hi ladies, Gina here, and I had to sneak in here to Annie's lovely post and put up our announcement for the Site CT girls!!   TeresaP (Tee), Joan (jonee), Niiki (Niiki) and Gabs (evitangel) will be wonderful additions to the team, which is an amazing team of ladies that work so hard for us!  I am constantly amazed at how much these 13 ladies do willingly and cheerfully to lessen the load for us and we love them and are so grateful for them!

I also wanted to make a little note of some changes with our personal CT's as well!  For a year now we have had some great CT girls come and go and we have had a marvelous time!  They all have worked so hard to create amazing works of art with our designs.  But now we have decided to run our personal CT's a little differently and we are excited to see how it goes!  Each of us (HEidi, Pat, and I) will each have a large list of some wonderful scrappers - talented ladies that we have noticed in the galleries and that have supported us in so many ways.  Each time we have a new release they will have the opportunity to scrap for us as their schedule allows and as we need layouts.  We will always be on the lookout for more of you ladies so keep posting your creations in our W&W gallery and participating in our challenges!  :)

So my question for today falls in line with the new  accomplishment of Teresa, Jonee, Niiki and evitangel.

What is an accomplishment you are most proud of?

Is it graduating college? Being a parent? Meeting your scrapping goals? Reaching your exercise or diet goals? Or something more everyday like managing to get all the kids in bed by 8pm or finding time to paint your toenails this week. :)

ooo Come Look N See - Best of the Bunch 5/21

Happy Wednesday my fellow Weedsters! It's the Best of the Bunch time again and I'm back to show off one of Heidi's Dandilions!!

Julie Marie !!! A paper scrapper since 2004, Julie turned digi in 2006. Her passion since high school (wasn't that just last week? LOL ) is photography and her skills in that area are so evident with every page she scraps! ... always keeping her photo(s) the focal point in her pages. Come on, I'll show you ...

"Take Time To Play" - could Julie's title be any more perfect for that adorable photo! And I just LUV how she uses only a few embellishments, keeping that photo center stage and still impacts the fun play of color in her page!

And I simply fell in love with her "2 Snowflakes" page! Dontcha just love Julie's choice of papers and elements! And that black and white photo is too dang cute!

 

Julie Marie's "The Wonder of Cars" is just precious. Her clean composition and simple clustering of elements draws your eye right where it belongs ... to that darling photo!

Traveling

Hi ladies! Annie (laughterqueen) here bringing you another $10 Tuesday. As I write this I'm currently hanging out in West Virginia, but a few days ago I was in Virginia, then before that Alabama and prior to that Germany. Oklahoma will be the next location we'll be visiting here in the next week or so. So in the course of 2 months I'll have been at 5 different locations. Whew. I'm tired! :) I'm not naturally the type to really enjoy traveling. Living out of suitcases and learning to keep my 2 year old occupied during long airplane/car trips isn't exactly my definition of bliss BUT I do love seeing new things ONCE I've arrived. Love trying new foods, new shops, meeting new people. SO my question for you today revolves around traveling.

Where is your favorite place to visit?

It can be a far away destination like the Bahamas, Asia or Europe, or some place close to home like a local coffee shop or clothing boutique. For me I LOVE visiting home, as in where I grew up & where my family lives. Love going to my parents house and smelling & eating my mom's yummy cooking, love hearing the hum of my mom's sewing machine, love sleeping on the same super soft cool sheets I slept on as a kid, love hearing my Dad's laugh, love having deep belly laughs that I ONLY have with my precious family. So for me I LOVE visiting good ol' home. It's hands down my favorite place in the whole world!!

Well not that ordinary...LOL. Today no "What's Sproutin' Up" header and sadly to say no new goodies...But that doesn't mean we're going to keep this a simple, ordinary post...No! Playing it Cool

Now that Summer months are nearly upon us it's starting to get pretty hot here where I am visiting (Alabama) and my two year old likes to spend ALLLL her waking hours on the Playground so I'm always looking for good tips on keeping cool. My daughters #1 rule for playing outdoors and keeping cool is

#1 Wear your sunglasses, they make you look cool AND as a bonus you look mysterious! LOL!

#2 Always asking Mommy for ice & ice cream! 

What are you tips for staying cool? Do you just stay indoors and enjoy air conditioning? Do you find a patch of shade and devour endless popscicles? Do you just wish for Winter to come so you can pull out your warm and fuzzy socks again??? :)

She's a Dandy! Best of the Bunch 5/7

Happy Wednesday my fellow Weedsters! It's the Best of the Bunch time again!! Can you believe another week has zipped on by (I'm still trying to recover from interNSD!!) and what better way to get back to scrappin', than to share with you all one of Heidi's Dandilions and what a dandy she is!! Please give it up for ...

Niiki !!!! who hails from the Czech Republic, a relative newbie to digi (less than a year) and one amazing scrapper! Let me show you a wee sampling of some of her beautiful pages  ...

Niiki's "Sweet Girl" popped right out at me and simply screams spring ... so bright and cheery! LUV those sweet photos and that dainty little cluster of elements in the corner! SO pretty!

And wowZA, just take a peek at her "Sand" layout and Niiki's gorgeous blending! LUV love love her splash of bright color flowers with that distressed frame that makes for one incredible page! wowZA is right!! This is one of my favorites of Niiki's --- and that's not easy, as she has so many incredible pages!

"Beauty" left me ooohing and aahing! It's so pretty and soft with her touch of lace and those swirls and stitching! Notice Niiki's subtle extraction?? Her FAB  use of elements & that gorgeous photo simply makes this one come alive ... I LUV this one from her too!

How Long?

Hello Weeds Fans! Annie (laughterqueen) here bringing you another $10 Tuesday! As I sat down yesterday to create a layout I realized how much time I really do invest in my pages. The time does vary, but even though I've been digi scrapping for a year now, it still takes me a good block of time to put the finalized details on a page and feel it's complete. So I timed myself on my latest page. It took me 2 hours off and on throughout yesterday and I had to go to bed last night before it was complete. I'm thinking probably another hour today and the layout will be done. Is that the norm? 3 hours on a page just seems like a long time! I might just be a slow-poke though! I will re-arrange and move things around until they feel "just right". Plus scrapping for me is more than just a hobby or documenting my family memories, it's a great way for me to wind down, it helps calm me after a hectic day, it's therapeutic for me! So my question for this week is:

"On average how long does it take you to complete a digi-layout?"

Simple Pleasures

Hello Weeds fans! Annie (laughterqueen) here bringing you another exciting $10 Tuesday!!! My favorite color changes occationally depending on the season, the current clothing styles, my mood, etc. But I still go back over and over to GREEN! For me it signifies new growth, nature, Spring and Summer! I was so lucky to find this amazing grass in my friend's yard and snapped this photo of my daughter and her friend enjoying swinging on a cool Spring day. LOVE the bright, beautiful green!!
